I invite you to play a thought experiment with me.
Let's examine the possibilities of what might happen in the near future. Assume that in the next election, for instance, Trump loses and by a quite noticeable margin, so there is no chance of any serious argument the election was fixed.
Trump, after the election, no longer with any chance of being elected, no longer with real value to his rich political friends? What are they going to do?
Will they invest large chunks of money in Trump after that? He's still going to be faced with all the trials in the various states for the various offenses, some of them serious offenses, involving national secrets.
What happens when he's found guilty? With so many cases, what is it, 91 cases, something like that? With so many, how many will it take before he gets actual jail time, mandatory jail time? And what happens then? What happens to him then?
It's all very reminiscent of the premise behind a cult 1967/8 series, produced and directed and starred in by Patrick McGoohan. I'm talking of course of The Prisoner, which has been gaining attention recently. Influencers reacting to The Prisoner and managing to get to Port Merion and describing delightfully that it's such a cute place and so on and that they had thought it was a Hollywood set.
In Number 6 versus Donald Trump we have a former successful British secret agent (obviously based on Patrick McGoohan's character Danger Man, in his previous black and white series) and this secret agent has become jaded and disillusioned with the business of being a secret agent. In the opening sequence that begins every Prisoner episode, he storms into the secret agent headquarters, banging his fist on his boss's desk and resigning. Then he's cancelled.
We see him being cancelled by all the automatic advanced computer equipment (a card index system at the time) and then he's gassed and taken away and wakes up the following morning in a very congenial place where everything is provided for him.
It's called The Village, and there's no way out. The Village has a population of secret agents and double agents and is monitored by an extremely high-tech system which precludes the possibility of anyone actually escaping and getting back into the real world and disgorging their secrets to whatever power or another.
I imagine Donald Trump may well become a modern “Number 6."
